HOW IT WORKS
IDENTIFY A THEME
TO SUIT YOUR TOPIC
-
Use one of your current curriculum topics as a springboard for your writing.
For example, a topic on Greek Mythology could lead to some lovely myths and legends style stories.
You can, of course, use any topic from History to Geography, to Science and beyond!
The title of the whole book should reflect its contents so using our Myths example, you could call your book - Mythical Tales from Long Ago. You can alternatively choose to write stories from a range of genres and starting points, but then your title should, of course, reflect this as in...An Anthology of Tales from Year 4...or similar.
USE THE EXPERT WRITING RESOURCES TO INSPIRE YOUR PUPILS
-
Use the PowerPoint presentations, videos and pdfs to assist teaching and learning.
There are modules on story settings, character profiling, editing, story planning, and much more.
Use the resources in their entirety or cherry-pick the ones that best suit your needs; the choice is yours!
ENCOURAGE YOUR PUPILS WITH OUR CAREER BASED VIDEOS
-
Learn what it's like to be an editor, writer, or publisher.
These informal video interviews will give your pupils an insight into the different career paths available to them and what a working day might look like in each field.

CHOOSE FROM ONE OF OUR CURRENT THEME SUGGESTIONS
OR CREATE YOUR OWN
WHISPERS IN THE SHADOWS
-
MYSTERIES WITH AN UNEXPECTED TWIST:
Use tension and suspense to take your reader down one path before cleverly exposing the real truth!Leave clues for your reader as you write, to add to the mystery.
Top tip - reveal your story truths and character traits slowly and gradually - don’t give too much away too soon!
THE YOUNG WIZARD
-
UNLEASH YOUR INNER MAGIC:
If you could do magic, what would your party trick be?Would you make yourself invisible, or perhaps you would be able to read people’s minds? Maybe you have a magical prop or tool that you take everywhere with you.
In a story of magic and wizardry you can really unleash your creativity.
Top Tip - Try to base some of your story in truth to make it more believable, your reader will need to be able to relate to at least some of your characters or settings.
INTO THE MIRROR
-
STORIES OF SELF-DISCOVERY:
Stories where the protagonist (main ‘goodie’ character) discovers something about themselves or learns a lesson can be really engaging.
Ask these questions about your main character…
What do they fear and how can they overcome that fear?
What have they changed about their behaviour to become a better person?
What challenges or obstacles have they beaten?
